Leighton Meester Is Putting the Weed in Tweed

Just in time for 4/20, St. John and Edie Parker are teaming up for a blazing collaboration.

It looks like the ultimate good girl has gone a little bad. (Alexa, play that Cobra Starship song.) The queen of the Upper East Side herself, Leighton Meester, is giving a cheeky nod to her Gossip Girl roots, fronting a new collaboration between St. John and Edie Parker that comes just in time for 4/20. Meester poses with two limited edition Tweed Burn Bags, remixing two classic Edie Parker pieces—a clutch and a shoulder bag—done up in archival nubby tweed fabric pulled from the St. John archives.

Introduced just last year, the Burn Bag features a retractable lighter holster on one side, which comes in handy for anyone who aligns with the brand's M.O. of "fashion meets flower." The accessory ensures that ladies who lunch and anyone who loves a tongue-in-cheek weed joke has the bag for circumstances that require an open flame.

Meester channels her iconic Blair Waldorf character in the campaign, which shows her in St. John's signature tweeds: she pairs a super-sexy bra top with a pencil skirt and coordinating coat in one snap and cocoa-colored tap shorts with a boxy jacket and pearl choker in another. Other nods to her upper-crust role include a prim-and-proper updo and satin pumps.

Meester's latest fashion top billing arrives after she fronted a campaign for online retailer FarFetchback in 2022. Her partnership with St. John comes hot on the trail of her opting for a sleek brown gown from the brand to accompany her husband, Adam Brody, to this year's Screen Actors Guild Awards.

"Since Marie Gray launched St. John in 1962, we have celebrated extraordinary women. Brett Heyman at Edie Parker began her brand with a discerning sartorial eye. While some may view this partnership as unprecedented for a luxury heritage brand, for us it is a natural alignment.” Andy Lew, St. John's global CEO, says of the collaboration. “We love supporting women who understand women, who think outside the box, who make things happen, and thrive in the unexpected. To delight a community with innovation and style is our common thread.”

Heman mentioned the parallels between St. John and Edie Parker, pointing out that both brands were established by women and call the sunny shores of California home. It's also no surprise that the Golden State is very much 4/20-friendly, adding another layer of charm to the drop.

“Both female-founded and originally from California, Edie Parker and St. John celebrate the bold individuality and independent attitude of their customers," Heyman added. "Their handbag collaboration sparks both conversation and lights actual fire. These bags are perfect for ladies who lunch, ladies who pass grass, and everyone in between.”
