The mother of a young man stabbed to death in cold blood says she is "haunted" by what her beloved son had to go through in his final moments.

Today, Daneiko Ferguson's murderers are beginning a life sentence each for the street slaying that ended 27-year-old Daneiko's life. Alga Lutondo, 33, and Halgon Randon, 44, will serve 28 years and 26 years respectively for the killing.

Daneiko, 27, was fatally wounded when he was attacked in Compton Road, Harehills, in the early hours of February 15 last year.

Lutondo and Randon planned the attack to get revenge and the pair went on to stab Daneiko five times. A wound to his groin severed his femoral artery causing a catastrophic bleed that resulted in his death.

The 27-year-old was found by a passing taxi driver and taken to hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead a short time later.

A murder investigation was launched, led by detectives from West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team. Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Damian Roebuck, said: “Daneiko’s family are understandably devastated that he has been taken from them in such violent and unnecessary circumstances.

“Regardless of the apparent background to the attack on him, there can be absolutely no justification for brutally taking someone’s life like this.

“Lutondo and Randon are clearly dangerous individuals who were prepared to use extreme violence to settle a score without any consideration for the consequences.

“We hope their convictions and imprisonment for Daneiko’s murder will give at least some small measure of comfort to his family as they continue to deal with the pain and heartbreak they are going through.”

And, as Lutondo and Randon began their life sentence, Daneiko's brave mother Hazel Camp slammed knife crime as she paid tribute to her son, saying: "The loss of a child causes immeasurable pain, suffering, guilt, and constant panic attacks, which never goes away. The impact this has had on the family as a whole can be seen daily. We have no enjoyment anymore; we just live to exist.

“My son will never walk his daughter down the aisle. His daughter will never get to show her father all her proud moments in life. Daneiko leaves behind many brothers and sisters, the youngest, who is only four years old, will not remember her brother as she grows. He leaves behind a ten-year-old daughter and lots of family and friends who are heartbroken beyond belief.

“I believe everyone who carries a knife has the capacity to use it. These two individuals caused immense suffering to my son that night and left him to bleed to death without a thought of anyone else but themselves. They have shown no remorse. At the very least they could have phoned Daneiko an ambulance, instead they allowed my son to bleed to death on a cold, miserable night, all alone.

“The thought of what was going through my son’s head on those last few moments of his life will haunt me forever. I believe that he called out for me as I woke at the time of his passing, with a very strange feeling. I didn’t get the chance to hold his hand and say goodbye. I will never forgive or forget the actions of the three of them that night.”
