Manchester United have been put on red alert after Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners refused to rule out leaving the Serie A side this summer.

The box-to-box midfielder has been one of the standout players in Serie A this season in an incredible campaign for Gian Piero Gasperini's side.

The 26-year-old Koopmeiners played a starring role on Wednesday night as Atalanta beat Bayer Leverkusen to win the Europa League, their first major trophy in over 60 years. However, he was non-committal when asked if he would still be at the Serie A side next season for their Champions League campaign.

Koopmeiners said: "I am very happy at Atalanta and now I just want to think about winning this trophy, then we will see."

Asked if he will be playing in the Champions League at Atalanta next season, he said: "Let’s see, let’s see."

The midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League for a few months, and admitted he would be keen to experience playing in England. Liverpool and Chelsea, under Mauricio Pochettino, have monitored the Dutch international.

Speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf back in March, Koopmeiners said: "I have told Atalanta that I want to make a move next summer, but there has to be something really nice to swap that for Atalanta just like that. My girlfriend and I are having a great time in Italy, but for some clubs in England, I’ll put up with the rain.

"I hope there will be nice options I can think about, and then I hope Atalanta receive a nice amount for me, because I will have had a wonderful time there."

There is interest in Italy for Koopmeiners too. Napoli had a £38m bid rejected by Atalanta while Juventus are believed to be ready to make a move for him this summer.

The player was accompanied by his close family, including his brother Peer Koopmeiners who plays for AZ, and agent Bart Barving last night at the Aviva Stadium according to the Mirror, with a belief that it was part of the perfect send-off.

Meanwhile, Koopmeiners' Atalanta teammate Ederson is also attracting interest. The Brazilian defensive midfielder is on the radar of several clubs, including Newcastle United, with Dan Ashworth - lined up to be the new sporting director at Old Trafford - playing a role in having him placed on their wishlist.
