Lewis Capaldi documentary coming to Netflix next month
A new documentary charting the story of Lewis Capaldi’s rise to fame is coming to Netflix.
The chart-topper has partnered with the streamer for a feature-length film, Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now, that will offer a behind-the-scenes glimpse into his attempts to reconnect with his humble Scottish roots after achieving worldwide stardom, with his song ‘Someone You Loved’ having become the UK’s most-streamed song of all time.
It comes as he gears up for the release of his second record, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent, which arrives on May 19. It follows 2019’s Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, which went went four-times platinum in the UK. How I’m Feeling Now begins with Capaldi back at his parents’ house in Scotland after a whirlwind promotional cycle for Divinely Uninspired…, and follows him over the course of a defining year that sees him adapting to his new-found success. He announced the film with a typically irreverent video, which you can see below.
“I’m pretty terrified for people to see this documentary if I’m quite honest, but I’m also really proud of it,” said Capaldi in a press release. “I hope you enjoy it.” He has been widely praised for his candour about his mental health and his struggle with Tourette syndrome, having previously discussed the effects of fame on his psyche in a 2022 interview with The Guardian.
“It’s been a big contributing factor with my anxiety, but at the end of the day, it all comes down to the same insecurities, fear of not living up to something, impostor syndrome, which my friends have who work in finance or whatever,” he explained. “So it is to do with success, but you can boil it down to these really human feelings and thoughts.”
How I’m Feeling Now is directed by BAFTA-winning director Joe Pearlman, who also helmed Bros: After the Screaming Stops and last year’s Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts. The documentary is streaming exclusively on Netflix from April 5, ahead of the album’s release in May. Later this year, Capaldi plays a series of huge outdoor shows in the UK – you can see the dates below.
