Lewis Hamilton's net worth - how F1 star made £300 million fortune

Lewis Hamilton, 39, is one of the biggest names in racing, and is considered one of the most successful drivers in history.

After nine years with Mercedes, at the start of the year, Lewis announced that he would be joining Ferrari on a multi-year contract. He has already been named Formula One World Drivers' Champion seven times, tied with Michael Schumacher. Although Mercedes has been lacking in form, the team is starting to get close to the front again, so with a home crowd behind him again, will Lewis find himself at the top of the podium once again?

As a result of his success, he is one of the richest sportsmen in the world right now. The sporting hero dreamed of becoming a racing driver from the tender age of four, when his dad Anthony Hamilton bought him a remote-control car. The driver competed in championships as a child, and finished second in the national BRCA championship the following year.

Net worth

Lewis is estimated to be worth £300 million according to the Sunday Times Rich List, surpassing David Beckham as the highest paid British sports star in 2020. Having won 103 Grand Prix as of 2024, it's no surprise the driver has amassed such a fortune.

Already, Lewis was one of the best paid drivers in the sport, as of 2020 when he was reportedly earning at least £30 million a year. But as he signed onto Ferrari, Lewis is rumoured to get paid $100 million annually - approximately £78.85 million per year.

As well as his salary alone, Lewis also gets various bonuses and advertising sponsorships that Lewis also receives, with global brands such as L'Oreal, Puma and Tommy Hilfiger.

On Lewis' racing gear alone, he has a staggering £112 million worth of sponsors. These include Monster Energy, Puma, Bose, Union Bank of Switzerland, Epson and Tommy Hilfiger, which all pay the sports star millions for their logo to be shown on his white polo top.

Alongside his sponsorship deals, Lewis is a brand ambassador for Tommy Hilfiger, a deal rumoured to be worth £4 million. Lewis also has a brand deal with Puma, which is worth £1.5 million and is believed to earn £6 million for being a face of the Union Bank of Switzerland.

One of his biggest deals, however, is with an entirely different sport. In a deal totalling over £3 billion, the Formula 1 driver became a part-time owner of the NFL team, the Denver Broncos.

Property

With plenty of cash to splash, the British driver has amassed quite the property portfolio. The star's main base of operations is in Monte Carlo, right next to the venue for the Monaco Grand Prix. The area is a favourite for many racing drivers, and Lewis can count Max Verstappen, Daniel Ricciardo and former teammate Valtterri Bottas amongst his neighbours.

The star previously had a£40 million penthouse apartment in the Tribeca area of New York City. The property featured a swimming pool, squash court and wine cellar, but despite its splendour and unrivalled views of the Hudson River, the F1 ace rarely stayed in it. In 2021, he sold the property for £49 million. What a profit!

Lewis also has a home closer to his roots, with a swanky Kensington apartment that he bought in 2017 and also has homes in Los Angeles and Colorado.

Cars

Unsurprisingly, the F1 driver has quite the collection of cars and has numerous glamorous cars to drive around in, which all total in their millions. Amongst his collection are a custom-made purple Pagani Zonda, totalling £1.6 million, a £4 million 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra and one of the only 275 Mercedes-AMG Project One cars, which costs £2 million.

Alongside his cars, Lewis also paid £4 million for a lavish Sunseeker yacht.
