Lewisham convenience store which produces its own craft beer wins national award

A Lewisham Nisa has been named the Convenience Store of the Year at a national awards ceremony.

Owner of Nisa - Torridon Convenience Kaual Patel beat competition from across the UK and Ireland to bag a top award at the 2024 Fed Awards.

The Federation of Independent Retailers (The Fed), a not-for-profit organisation with more than 10,000 members, organises the prestigious event annually to recognise the best in retail.

The decision was made by a judging panel, including the Fed's National President and awards sponsors.

The judging panel said: "Torridon Convenience has demonstrated some great initiatives, even producing their own craft beer, they are constantly looking to refine and expand on the range of products and keeping prices at an affordable level for the customers."

Initiatives like these were what gave Mr Patel the upper hand over other competitors.

As well as these innovations, the businessman also wowed the judges with his store's recent refurbishments with additional new items introduced, including a 'food to go' section, Jolly Ranche soft drinks and milkshakes.

The highlight of his store in Lewisham, however, is his unique chilled beer cave named The Vault.

It contains more than 330 varieties of craft beers and wines alongside a non-alcoholic selection and products from local breweries.

Mr Patel has got creative too, by creating his own craft beer - Torridon Lager - in collaboration with Brockley Brewery.

Not just that, he also has a pale ale on the shelf that celebrates the mosaic outside his store.

The award ceremony took place at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham on June 18.

Upon winning Mr Patel said: "I am extremely proud and honoured to win, it is a real honour as a Nisa store to win such a prestigious award.

"It was a fantastic evening and a real highlight were the new friendships forged and I look forward to attending future similar events."
