Liam Payne may not have won X Factor with One Direction, but the star thinks his relationship with former judge Cheryl makes him the show's "biggest winner".

The 'Strip That Down' singer gushed about his girlfriend and their "ridiculous" relationship in a new interview.

It has been a long journey for the two, having met when Liam first auditioned for the X Factor back in 2008. They now have a baby together.

"It's a ridiculous place to be in," he told the Telegraph Magazine. "She's even more amazing than I thought. I was watching her do 'Fight for This Love' when I was a kid, and now we're together with a kid. I feel like I'm X Factor's biggest winner.

"I feel great about what's going on in my life. I'm extremely lucky. I feel like I'm in a comatose dream. I'm like, 'When did I last bump my head?' because I can't believe this."

Liam also admitted that he is so loved-up with Cheryl that he has struggled to write music, explaining: "I had a bit of a problem formulating what was going on in my brain into the music at first, because I was so content with everything in my personal life.

"It's easy to spill your guts out on a ballad. But I was thinking, 'Oh God, I'm really happy – what am I going to write about?!'"

The One Direction star recently revealed why he and Cheryl called their baby Bear, telling The Late Late Show: "When he was born, I think one of the midwives said it, he actually has this thing where if they don't have a good cry, they get fluid on their lungs which is quite serious.

"So he was going 'grrr', growling away when he was sleeping, so I had specialists running in and out of the hospital while my missus was asleep and he was being checked over, and they were like, 'Oh, I'm not really sure, we'll get someone else in'.

"And I had like, 10 doctors coming in the room and in the end, one guy was like, 'Dude I'm not being funny, there's nothing wrong with him – just likes to make a lot of noise'. And that's carried on ever since – so he just became Bear."
