Liam Payne admits he wanted a more 'traditional' name for baby son Bear

Earlier this month, we were all left a little shocked when it was reported that Liam Payne and Cheryl had named their newborn son Bear.

Tweeting TV star Bear Grylls to confirm the reports, Liam later shared that his son, who was born in March, also goes by the sweet nickname ‘Cub’, however, the star has now admitted that he wanted more of a ‘traditional’ name for his first child.

Liam admits it was Cheryl who chose the unusual name ‘Bear’.

In fact, it sounds like Liam had the exact same response to Cheryl’s suggestion of ‘Bear’ as we did when we first heard the name, but because the former X Factor judge is the one who “did all the work” when it came to bringing their child into the world, Liam felt that it was only right that she had the final say.

Speaking about the unusual moniker, Liam told The Sun: “I’m into more traditional names, the Mrs… she’s more into more unique, original names that people will remember.

“It was her choice. I wasn’t going to fight her about it, she’s the one who’s done all the work, isn’t she?”

Liam went on to admit that it can be difficult spending so much time away from his son for work, adding: “We’re always Facetiming and the other day he smiled at me for the first time, it was so special.

“I just want to spend every moment with him but she [Cheryl] is so great, she does everything on her own. She’s been amazing.”

Last night, Liam also took to Instagram to pay tribute to Cheryl on America’s Mother’s Day, sharing a photo of himself looking adorable with a Snapchat filter alongside the caption: “Happy Mother’s Day America and to my two very special ladies mum and Cheryl.

Liam’s debut solo single ‘Strip That Down’ is due to be released on Friday, with the star being the final member of One Direction to release his own music since the group went on hiatus at the end of 2015.

We can’t wait to hear it!
