Liam Rosenior reported to have ruled himself out for Plymouth Argyle job

Liam Rosenior will not be the next Plymouth Argyle head coach, according to a report from national football journalist Alan Nixon.

Rosenior was surprisingly sacked by Hull City earlier this month, despite leading them to a final position of seventh in the Championship, and has been a popular choice among the Green Army to take charge at Home Park. Nixon has posted a story on his Patreon page today that Argyle contacted Rosenior but the 39-year-old had 'turned down a quick managerial return'.

Plymouth Live understands Rosenior has been under consideration for the vacancy at Home Park and that an appointment is not particularly close to being made by the Championship club.

Rosenior was the 1/2 favourite for the Pilgrims' post with bookies Bet Victor today, followed by Chesterfield manager Paul Cook at 4/1 and Paul Heckingbottom, the former Barnsley, Leeds United, Hibernian and Sheffield United boss, at 5/1.

Argyle have been wary of rushing into a decision after the appointment of Ian Foster as their new head coach at the start of the year proved so unsuccessful. Foster took charge on January 5 but after only 14 Championship games, eight of which were defeats, he was dismissed after the Pilgrims lost 1-0 at home to Bristol City on April 1.

Director of football Neil Dewsnip and first team coach Kevin Nancekivell took temporary charge and guided the Pilgrims to Championship survival with 10 points from the last six games of the season, including a vital 1-0 victory over Rosenior's Hull on the final day of the season.
