A TikTok user has shared a handy 'life hack' to clean a part of your kitchen you've probably been overlooking.

Standing above many stoves is the extractor hood filter, which often becomes a haven for grease. Its main job is to capture the smoke or steam from cooking. However, as time passes, it gets increasingly blocked with filth – making it less efficient, reports the Mirror.

Luckily, social media user AndreLifeHack has a simple solution. By lowering the hood and gently pouring boiling water over the fan in the sink, you'll see the grease dissolve almost immediately – much more effective than laborious scrubbing with a brush and detergents.

After rinsing, let it dry before popping it back into place. Andre even had a go cleaning his own fan, showing off just how effective the technique can be.

The video went viral last week, racking up a staggering 10.4 million views. While some of Andre's followers suggested that placing the filter in the dishwasher works just as well, those without dishwashers were especially thankful for the tip.

"Damn, gonna give this a try tomorrow," one user remarked. Another exclaimed: "Wow I am trying this."

One commenter questioned: "I rent and mine looks like it hasn't been cleaned in 20 years – can I buy a new one or should I try this? " Meanwhile, another simply said: "One problem solved! ".

Andre is one of the most followed users on TikTok for sharing home advice, boasting an impressive 7.9 million followers. His most popular video has been viewed over 118 million times.

The video demonstrates a fun method of removing a cork from a wine bottle without the need for a corkscrew. Andre demonstrates that by applying the heat of a candle lighter to the neck of the bottle, the cork slowly rises before popping out on its own.
