Life Is Strange is getting a full sequel to Max Caulfield's story, and it's coming out this year.

Titled Life Is Strange: Double Exposure, the new game follows Max, now a student at Caledon University, as she discovers that her new best friend Safi has been murdered.

Max tries to rewind time, a power that she has not used in years, and ends up being able to travel to a parallel timeline where Safi is still alive.

The supernatural murder mystery game is being developed by Deck Nine, the studio behind 2021's Life Is Strange: True Colors as well as Before the Storm and the Remastered Collection, and is being published by Square Enix.

The announcement was made at today's Xbox Games Showcase.

The trailer accompanying the reveal shows Max moving between the two timelines and trying to save Safi's life, as her friend remains in danger in the parallel reality.

"I can still save Safi," Max says in a voiceover, "if I can solve and prevent the same murder across two timelines."
