Light Rainfall Brings Some Relief to Drought-Stricken Iraq

A light rain fell on parts of Iraq on Friday, October 21, bringing some relief to a region experiencing declining rainfall and drought in recent years.

Video filmed by Erbil Life shows damp conditions in the city of Erbil, located in the autonomous Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq.

A member of the High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq, Fadel Al-Ghazzawi, said a record decline in rainfall last year contributed to a water crisis and the desertification of agricultural land in the country, local media reported in early October. Credit: Erbil Life via Storyful
