Lily Allen blasts “offensive” X Factor rapper Honey G

Singer Lily Allen has laid into X Factor rapper Honey G, calling her “wrong on so many levels.”

Speaking in a Radio One interview, the 31-year-old Smile singer said: “As far as I can tell she is a white lady that dresses up in Ali G, Goldie Lookin’ Chain kind of attire.

“She has done really well on X Factor and ITV is pouring money into her. I’m not black but I find it offensive. So wrong on so many levels, I can’t even start to talk about it.”

Lily is by no means the first person to brand the divisive 35-year-old rapper – real name Anna Georgette Gilford – as racist. Some commentators have even likened her act to a ‘modern day black and white minstrel show’ and accused her of parodying British black culture.

Hip hop artist Professor Green accused her of “taking the mickey out of rap”, while grime singer Kano said Honey G is a “joke”, and called her prominence on X Factor “so wrong”.

However, Honey G has hit back at the claims, claiming that if anyone is a victim of racism, it’s HER, thank you very much.

“I think people are discriminating against me, they are using the race card against me,” she said.

“I feel like they are discriminating against me because I am white. It makes me question whether they have a problem with someone rapping who is white.”

“I’m not the only white person in the world who likes black music. There’s no evidence, proof or truth that I am a racist.”

Still, at least Honey G has Snoop Dogg on her side. Asked about her chances on the show, the 44-year-old rapper said “I am happy to see Simon [Cowell] is finally giving real hip-hop talent a chance on the show, it’s been a long time coming,

“Straight up, you can tell Honey G comes from the streets.”

He’s being sarcastic, isn’t he? Someone tell us he’s being sarcastic.
