Lincolnshire Police name man found dead in Brayford Pool during early hours

Lincolnshire Police have named the man found dead in Lincoln's Brayford Pool during the early hours of Monday, May 6 as Darren Sweetland. The 58-year-old's family has been informed and have asked for privacy while they deal with their loss.

Officers received a report that a man was in the water near the flyover bridge at 12.40am on Monday. Mr Sweetland was pulled from the water with assistance from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police remained at the scene throughout the day to conduct enquiries. The investigation into his death, which is currently being treated as unexplained, is still ongoing.

At the time of Mr Sweetland's body being found, a spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: "We are now asking for anyone with information about how he came to be in the water to come forward. If you were on a night out in the area last night (Sunday, May 5), into this morning, please check mobile phone footage and see if you may have captured anything with a man matching his description.

"We are keen to see any footage of him prior to going into the water, as well as anything which may have captured him entering the water. Any information, no matter how small or insignificant you think it might be will be helpful; please get in touch and let us decide if it’s relevant.

"If you can help, please contact 101 quoting incident 12 of 6 May, or email quoting the same number."
