Lincolnshire, with its stunning coastline, offers a plethora of choices for those seeking a tranquil day out. Skegness and Mablethorpe are bustling with activities for tourists and visitors during the summer holidays.

However, for those craving a quieter beach trip, there are several excellent options just a short drive from these main towns. We all love a trip to Skegness, and it's clear to see why.

Skegness boasts an array of top family attractions according to Tripadvisor reviews, but Lincolnshire's offerings don't stop there. A brief journey away from the more frequented tourist spots reveals smaller, serene locations.

If you're in search of a relaxed spot for your pet or a family getaway with extra beach space, these destinations could be ideal. Here are some of Lincolnshire's hidden, quieter beaches for a chilled-out summer day trip.

Chapel St Leonards

A stone's throw from central Skegness, Chapel St Leonards provides a more laid-back alternative, especially during the peak season. This sand and shingle beach on the Lincolnshire coastline is a favourite for swimming and family outings, without being overly crowded.

It is also a good place for walking as the beaches stretch for many miles in both directions. Skegness is located around 6 miles south of the beach.

Despite being a quieter location, it is not short of facilities, with toilets, pubs, restaurants, shops and places to stay all available.

Sutton-on-Sea

Perhaps the most popular Lincolnshire beach away from the traditional two, Sutton-on-sea offers a quieter day out, without having to miss out on any of the traditional things that make a seaside visit so special. The small coastal village is ideal for families and great for swimming.

It's much quieter than its neighbour Mablethorpe but is just a short walk away from the main town, meaning if you wanted to visit the arcades or have a favourite chippy you like to visit in the town, you can still do that, but Sutton-on-Sea offers the benefit of more freedom and space on the beach. One of the most popular parts of Sutton-on-Sea is its children's Splash Pool, featuring fountains and various water features.

Sandilands

Located just past Sutton-on-Sea - slightly further away from Mablethorpe - Sandilands is one of Lincolnshire's top beaches and is described by VisitLincolnshire as "an ideal quiet coastal spot for dog walking and enjoying the fresh sea breeze."

You can park at Roman Bank, where there are also toilets.

The locale also boasts a variety of food outlets, providing visitors with quality amenities away from the usual hustle and bustle. Similar to Sutton on Sea, it is famous for its beach huts.

A visitor left a positive review on TripAdvisor, saying: "A great pet-friendly beach even in the summer - The beach is long and sandy and very clean too. There are rows of beach huts that line the promenade with a golf course just behind so you can walk along the pavement or along the beach. There is plenty of space for everyone to enjoy themselves."

Ingoldmells

While Ingoldmells wouldn't exactly fit the bill of a 'hidden' spot, it's often overlooked by visitors heading straight for central Skegness. Although not as tranquil as Chapel-St-Leonards and Sandilands, it offers a more relaxed atmosphere, especially during the peak of summer.

Located close to the resort on the Lincolnshire coastline, Ingoldmells is sandy beach that houses numerous caravan parks and the much-loved Fantasy Island theme park, scheduled to reopen later this month. Here are the full opening times for the park.

The area also houses ample other facilities like shops, pubs, eateries, and a bowling alley. Please note, these can get quite crowded during popular hours.

Winthorpe

Just a few miles north of Skegness lies Winthorpe beach. With miles of untouched sands and a sprawling promenade ideal for long strolls, this site is indeed a hidden wonder.

Traditional beach amenities such as ice cream shops litter this seaside gem.

It's also a dog-friendly spot, so your furry friend can join you for a relaxing day by the sea.
