She continued: “He might have been small in stature but he was a giant of a man and just an incredible inspiration to us all. He had such an amazing career and then to be the face of the MND [Motor Neurone Disease] community in such difficult circumstances, and for him to open his doors and show the world at a time where he was at his most vulnerable was a really courageous and brave thing to do… Rob taught us so much.

"He taught us to be positive in his final message about being brave and facing our fears, Rob lived that to every word and he will continue to live on with us - he will be with us every step of the way. ”

Describing Rob as “a devoted family man”, Lindsey said: “He worshipped the children. He would enjoy spending time with the children and that’s what he lived for and I think the children kept him going right to the end. He wouldn’t give in until his final breath and he fought a courageous battle with MND and we are incredibly proud of him.”

Updating Lorraine on how the kids are coping, Lindsey added: “They’re good. In my role now, they are my priority and making sure that they are supported through the grief. They’re just incredibly proud of their dad and the legacy that he leaves. They’re incredibly proud.”

Opening up about the outpouring love and support towards their family since Rob passed, Lindsey said: “It’s been incredible. It has brought comfort to us in these tough times and we’ve had so many special messages and just people reaching out. Rob was such an inspiration to so many people and he showed us the way, he showed us how to be brave and how to be positive and resilient and that’s what we have got to remember.”

She added: “He never looked for self pity, he never felt sorry for himself. He is just such a huge inspiration to us all and I think we all need to be a bit more like Rob.”

On how she became a full-time carer for Rob in his final years, Lindsey said: “If I can shine a light on carers through my experience because I think they are often unseen, they are often forgotten and they are basically keeping our country going. They save the NHS about £162 billion a year which is the equivalent of a second NHS service. So as well as continuing Rob’s legacy, I want to raise awareness for carers and the work that they do.”
