'Line of Duty's' Anna Maxwell Martin shrugs off fan Morse code theory: 'I was just bored'
Line Of Duty star Anna Maxwell Martin has shrugged off a fan theory that her character tapped out the Morse code for "H" during an interview scene, claiming she was "just bored".
Keen viewers of the hit BBC police procedural have been scouring series six for clues as to the identity of police corruption boss H, or The Fourth Man, and thought they'd uncovered a big one during a lengthy interview scene in episode six.

Maxwell Martin's character DCS Patricia Carmichael is Superintendent Ted Hastings' (Adrian Dunbar) nemesis and has been brought in to replace him as the head of AC-12, but fans have been suspicious that she could be part of a corrupt officers network.
It seemed she had given away a spoiler on Sunday night when Carmichael tapped her pen against the desk in Morse code for H, but the actor told This Morning that fans have got it wrong – she was just trying to cope with the boredom of a long shoot.
'She probably just wants a nice cuddle doesn't she? Pat... she's just a bit cross.'

Laughingly saying she had no idea it was Morse code, she added: "I think I was just bored. Those scenes are very long. I think I was like, ‘What am I saying next?’"
The interview scene, where Carmichael, Hastings and DI Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) grilled DS Jo Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) about her links to organised crime, ran to nearly half an hour of the hour-long episode and the apparent spoiler sparked a number of tweets from viewers.

As ever, I've come up with a few theories from last night's #LineofDuty. One of the biggest takeaways for me was when DCS Carmichael, when interviewing Jo, tapped her pen four times, potentially signalling Morse code. Did anyone else pick up on that? I noticed it immediately! 👀

But along with her co-stars, Maxwell Martin managed to keep series creator Jed Mercurio's next plot twists a secret by claiming that she couldn't remember much about filming the series.

She told This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby: “When I was filming Line Of Duty, I was filming Motherland at the same time, so I was rushing on to each set and I just can’t remember anything.
"Either that, or they play tricks on you and when they drop you off at Belfast airport and they blank your mind, so you can’t remember anything.”
Macdonald appeared on BBC Breakfast on Monday morning and also stayed vague on the details of what would unfold in the final episode of series six.
She said: "I'm in this weird world where I'm not watching it and I'm also not going online, so I'm not too aware...
"13 million, that's a lot of people watching it, but I am not one of them. I watched the first episode and I also went online and it took me a week to not be mental any more."
