Lisandro Martinez has posted a message on social media after his long-awaited return to training for Manchester United.

Martinez has been sidelined with a calf injury he suffered in the 1-1 draw with Brentford on March 30. That game was the defender's first appearance in nearly two months after recovering from a knee injury.

The Argentina international has struggled with injuries in his second season with United, missing 36 games in total. Martinez has made just 11 appearances for the Reds this term, including only nine in the Premier League.

On Thursday Martinez was spotted taking part in United's training session ahead of this weekend's Premier League fixture, with Marcus Rashford also returning after missing the last three matches. The Reds host Arsenal at Old Trafford as they continue their quest to secure European football.

Martinez posted some of the photos of himself from the training session on Instagram. As part of the post, he included a caption which had a salute emoji and a flexed arm emoji, accompanied by tagging United's official account.

Former United goalkeeper David De Gea commented on the post, where he merely used the eyes emoji. Former United loanee Sergio Reguilon also commented by leaving three heart eyes emojis.

Erik ten Hag is likely to provide an update on Martinez's fitness when he speaks to the media on Friday. It remains to be seen whether or not the centre-back will have recovered enough to be in the starting line-up or settle for a place on the bench.

United have just three Premier League fixtures remaining this season against Arsenal, Newcastle and Brighton to try and improve on their current eighth-place position in the table. The Reds also have an FA Cup final against Manchester City later this month, where Ten Hag and Co. will hope to have Martinez available to start in the contest at Wembley Stadium.
