Car insurance can hit motorists' pockets hard, varying by almost £1,000 depending upon the make and model of the vehicle.
That's the assessment of comparison site GoCompare and many drivers have found out the hard way when they check out insurance premiums after picking their car. Research shows that the most expensive type of car to insure costs around £1,200 on average per year, while the cheapest to insure costs around £241, reports Wales Online.
So, with this in mind, it's worth paying close attention to make and model before the choice of car is made. Following the research, Which? has shared the 10 most and least expensive cars to insure.

The consumer champion has come up with the top 10 cheapest car makes and models to insure on average, per year, according to the research from GoCompare - and the Peugeot 206 took the top spot, with insurance averaging £241 a year.
The Porsche Boxster came in second cheapest at £243, while the Mazda MX-5 was third, with an average premium of £249.
The list of most expensive cars, meanwhile, is filled with fast, powerful vehicles. The most expensive to insure is the Porsche Taycan, at £1,200 per year on average.
