Queer representation on TV has come a long way in the past decade, with 2022 being one of the best years ever for LGBTQ+ visibility on television.

Sadly, though, that doesn’t mean there weren’t a few casualties along the way. Many of these shows were praised by fans and critics so while you may feel a little stabby when thinking about your fave queer shows being canceled, these shows are still worth a watch if you missed some.

Dead End: Paranormal Park (2022)

Synopsis: Two teens and a talking pug team up to battle demons at a haunted theme park — and maybe even save the world from a supernatural apocalypse.

Netflix canceled the animated series in January after two season, both of which aired last year. But don't fear because the creator says the storyline will be finished in an upcoming DeadEndia book.

1899 (2022)

Synopsis: A multilingual German period piece about Immigrants on a steamship traveling from London to New York who get caught up in a mysterious riddle after finding a second vessel adrift on the open sea.

The show was canceled by Netflix in January after only one season.

Batwoman (2019-2022)

Synopsis: Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate soars through the shadowed streets of Gotham as Batwoman. But don't call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, she must first overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham's symbol of hope.

The show had to change course after Ruby Rose was let go and the CW finally canceled the series on April, 29, 2022, after airing three seasons.

Fate: The Winx Saga (2021-2022)

Synopsis: A coming-of-age journey of five fairies attending Alfea, a magical boarding school in the Otherworld where they must learn to master their enchanting powers while navigating love, rivalries, and the monsters that threaten their very existence.

Netflix cancelled the show in November, 2022 after two seasons.

Gentleman Jack (2019-2022)

Synopsis: Set in 1832 Halifax, West Yorkshire, and inspired by a remarkable true story, this drama series follows the charismatic Anne Lister (Suranne Jones) as she attempts to revitalize her inherited home—and marry a wealthy heiress (Sophie Rundle).

In July, 2022 HBO announced it wouldn't be renewing the period piece for a third season due to low ratings.

First Kill (2022)

Synopsis: Teenage vampire Juliette sets her sights on a new girl in town Calliope for her first kill. But much to Juliette's surprise, Calliope is a vampire hunter. Both find that the other won't be so easy to kill and, unfortunately, way too easy to fall for.

Netflix announced in August, 2022 that it wouldn't be renewing the show for a second season.

Gossip Girl (2021-2022)

Synopsis: Privileged teens living on the Upper East Side of New York can hide no secret from the ruthless blogger who is always watching.

This reboot of the original series was canceled by HBO MAX after two seasons earlier this month.

The L Word: Generation Q (2019-2023)

Synopsis: Bette Porter, Shane McCutcheon and Alice Pieszecki intermingle with a younger generation of Los Angelenos experiencing love, heartbreak, sex, setbacks and success.

The series was canceled in March by Showtime after three seasons. But don't fret because a reboot of the original series is in the works!

Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself (2022)

Synopsis: Caught between two warring clans, the son of a notorious witch responsible for a deadly massacre tries to find his place in the world — and his powers.

The series based on a YA fantasy novel was canceled by Netflix in December, 2022 after a single season.

Legacies (2018-2022)

Synopsis: Legacies follows Hope Mikaelson, the daughter of Klaus Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall, who is descended from some of the most powerful vampire, werewolf, and witch bloodlines. Two years after the events of The Originals, 17-year-old Hope attends the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted.

The CW canceled Legacies earlier this month after four seasons of the spinoff of The Vampire Diaries.

Love, Victor (2020-2022)

Synopsis: The show follows Victor, a new student at Creekwood High School on his own journey of self-discovery, facing challenges at home, adjusting to a new city, and struggling with his sexual orientation. When it all seems too much, he reaches out to Simon to help him navigate the ups and downs of high school.

The show aired on Hulu for three seasons before ending on June 15, 2022.

Q-Force (2021-2022)

Synopsis: A gay super spy and his scrappy LGBTQ squad fight to prove themselves to the agency that underestimated them. Today, West Hollywood...tomorrow, the world!

Netflix canceled this animated series in June of last year after only one season.

One of Us Is Lying (2021-2022)

Synopsis: A brain, an athlete, a princess, a criminal and a "basket case" walk into detention--but only the first four make it out alive.

The series streamed on Peacock for two season before being canceled after a big cliff hanger. But hold tight because there are rumors that the creators are shopping the series around to other streaming services.

Queer as Folk (2022)

Synopsis: Queer as Folk is a vibrant reimagining of the groundbreaking British series created by Russell T. Davies, exploring a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy.

The show was canceled in September, 2022 by Peacock after it ran for one season.

Uncoupled (2022)

Synopsis: Michael's life seemed to be perfect, until his long time partner blindsided him after 17 years of being in long time relationship. He has to confront the nightmares of losing his soulmate and suddenly finding himself as a single gay man in his mid-40s.

Netflix canceled Uncoupled in February, 2023 after a single season.

Smiley (2022)

Synopsis: Two men and their friends in Barcelona navigate hesitations, hangups and missed connections as they search for the true love they've been missing.

The gay rom-com was canceled by Netflix earlier this month after only one season.

Warrior Nun (2020-2022)

Synopsis: After waking up in a morgue, an orphaned teen discovers she now possesses superpowers as the chosen Halo-Bearer for a secret sect of demon-hunting nuns.

Despite its cult following, the show was canceled by Netflix last December after two seasons.

Vampire Academy (2022)

Synopsis: In a world of privilege and glamour, two young women's friendship transcends their strikingly different classes as they prepare to complete their education and enter royal vampire society.

The show based on a YA fantasy series was canceled by Peacock in January after one season.

Work in Progress (2019-2022)

Synopsis: Abby is a 45-year-old self-identified fat, queer dyke whose misfortune and despair unexpectedly lead her to a vibrantly transformative relationship.

Showtime canceled the show in January after only two seasons despite its critical acclaim.

The Wilds (2020-2022)

Synopsis: A group of teens must survive after a plane crash leaves them stranded on a deserted island. The girls tell their stories to investigators who slowly piece together what happened to them.

The series was canceled by Amazon Prime in June, 2022 after the second season received less buzz than the first.
