Bar owners have raised a glass to a newly-discovered pub and bar crawl around Holmfirth town centre.

The bar-hopping challenge is understood to take in 18 of Holmfirth's best watering holes, with a focus on those selling draught beer. There's no pressure to have a beer in all of them as 18 beers probably wouldn't be sensible.

The challenge takes in some of the town's cool new bars as well as some old favourites.

The Holmfirth Open Challenge has been going for a year or two but has largely taken place under the radar, although social media activity has picked up in recent weeks.

Bar owners welcomed the challenge and say it will encourage people to discover what Holmfirth has to offer.

Elena O'Brien, who, along with husband Luke, operates O'Briens Bottle Shop and nearby Coopers Yard in Holmfirth, wasn't aware of the Holmfirth Open Challenge until this week.

She said: "I’ve never heard of it but after looking on Instagram I remember the group coming in to the bar - they were collecting a piece of merchandise from everywhere they went and we gave them a T-shirt.

"I didn’t know it was an official thing. But I am glad we were early on the list. There's a lot of bars in Holmfirth to hit."

Emily Walland, of Barhemian, said the bar-crawl challenge was a good idea. "I think it's great," she said. "It brings people out on week nights and it gets all the drinking establishments involved."

It's not clear if the bars should be visited in any particular order, or if a map has been produced to help punters find their way around. Below, we've listed the bars and pubs included in the Holmfirth Open Challenge.
