The Little Mermaid trailer released with William Moseley and Poppy Drayton
The first trailer for a live-action version of The Little Mermaid has been released.
The upcoming film is not a Disney production, and is instead based on the famous fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen.
The film follows Elle (Loreto Peralta) and her cousin Cam (William Moseley), a reporter, who travel to a small town in Mississippi to find a woman who is believed to be the real Little Mermaid (Poppy Drayton).
The two-minute trailer shows the Mermaid telling Elle about “a little girl born on land, blessed with the heart of a mermaid”.
Elle and Cam then race to save the hybrid creature after a circus ringmaster ‘takes a part’ of the Mermaid before she is imprisoned.
The film, which is billed as “an adventure that doesn’t stop at the ocean’s edge” also stars Shirley MacLaine and Gina Gershon.
It is directed by Blake Harris and Chris Bouchard.
Disney is in the process of making a live action remake of its 1990 animated classic which featured red-haired Ariel and her friends Sebastian and Flounder.
Chloe Moretz was expected to play the titular character but stepped down last year.
The Little Mermaid is set for release later this year.
