Little Mix dedicated their Best British Group Brit Award to the Spice Girls and All Saints as they became the first ever female winners of the gong.

Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock were delighted to make history as the first girl band to take title at the 2021 Brits, but took their the time on stage to thank all the female groups who had missed out in the award in the past.

The girls all squealed as they accepted the award before Edwards exclaimed: "Oh my goodness guys we have just made history!"

Edwards was referring to the fact she and Pinnock are both pregnant.

Pinnock continued: " We have been together for 10 years it's been the best years of our life, we have had so much fun. We want to start by thanking out incredible fans. Of course Jesy [Nelson, who quit the band in December 2020].

"It's not easy being a female in the UK pop industry. We've seen misogyny, white male dominance and lack of diversity."

Thirlwell added: "The fact that a girl band has won this award really does speak volumes, so this is not just for us, its for the Spice girls, All Saints and all of the incredible girl bands."

The winners at this year's Brits will receive two gongs - with a smaller statuette alongside their main prize to share with someone else.

Artists Es Devlin and Yinka Illori designed the "double trophy" to promote acts of kindness.

Pinnock, 29, announced last week she is expecting her first child with fiance Andre Gray.

Earlier in the ceremony Whitehall introduced Little Mix by saying: "This band are so in sync they can even harmonise their pregnancies!"

Later in the ceremony he teased the band by asking them: "What did you do to pass the time in lockdown? I won't ask that, the proof is in the pudding!"
