Local election results across the North East will be announced throughout the day on Friday (May 3).

Voters took to the polls yesterday (May 2) to elect councillors, mayors and police and crime commissioners across the region.

In Hartlepool, Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Sunderland seats were up for grabs on their local councils. In North Tyneside all seats are up for grabs, while a third of those on each of the other five councils are being contested.

More stories on local elections 2024:

Councils in Darlington, Middlesbrough, Stockton and Redcar and Cleveland held full votes last year where every seat was up for grabs. Elections in all four areas won't take place again until 2027.

In County Durham and Northumberland full elections to every post on their respective county councils will take place in 2025.

While some results have been announced overnight, North Tyneside council do not begin counting until this morning. We'll update all of our trackers here as and when results come in.
