The Northern Echo will bring you live coverage throughout the night on Thursday as the North East decides who it wants to form the next Government.

Polls will close at 10pm on Thursday (July 4), marking the end of the General Election campaign.

As Big Ben strikes ten, the exit poll will drop giving Britain the first indication of who will be Prime Minister.

Results in our region will be announced soon after with the first expected shortly after 11pm. The Northern Echo will bring you results, news and analysis from across the region.

As each declaration is made, another constituency on our interactive map will be filled in. Soon, it will paint the picture of the North East's decision.

See how seats change hands

Our graphic below will show how the make up of the North East changes overnight.

Before the election, the Conservatives held 12 seats, and Labour held 18.

Due to boundary changes the region now has 28 seats instead of 30. Those two seats lost belonged to Labour, as shown on the graphic.

As the night goes on and seats may begin to change hands, the lines will diverge to show where seats have swapped between parties.
