Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze should be targeted if Mohamed Salah leaves his old club this summer.

The Egyptian has faced scrutiny over his future following intense interest from the Saudi Pro League last summer, with the club braced for a further approach. Al-Ittihad launched a late transfer push for the Reds star, offering in excess of £100million for the attacker, but the Reds turned down the approach.

Salah is entering the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield as Liverpool face an important transformation following the departure of Jurgen Klopp and his backroom staff. Arne Slot was confirmed as his successor on Monday, 24 hours after the German orchestrated a new chant for the 45-year-old in an emotional speech following his side's 2-0 win over Wolves.

The 31-year-old suffered his first spell on the sidelines through injury this season after picking up a hamstring injury during Egypt's Africa Cup of Nations pursuit. Salah will be 33 by the time his contract expires on Merseyside, should he see out his current deal, and there are likely to be contingency plans in place to succeed the record-breaking winger.

Johan Bakayoko of PSV has been mooted as a direct replacement for the former Chelsea and AS Roma attacker, but Murphy has highlighted the Crystal Palace duo as viable contenders to replace him.

"It depends if Salah stays or goes as well," he told talkSPORT. "If Salah goes, they'll bring another person in, someone's going to have to step up and get 25 goals.

"I wouldn't sell Salah unless he's saying, 'I want to go.' It depends on the amount," he added. "He's 31 years old, £100million comes in and he wants to go, he's got to go."

Klopp has previously spoken highly of Jarrod Bowen, who notched 20 goals for West Ham United last season, while Mohammed Kudus has been a stroke of genius from the Hammers after setting the Premier League alight in his debut campaign, following a £38million move from Ajax.

But Murphy isn't convinced by the duo and has suggested the Reds target Olise and Eze, who enjoyed a superb end to the season under Oliver Glasner.

He continued: "I wouldn't go either (Kudus or Bowen). If I got £100m for Salah, I'd give the £100m to Palace and take Olise and Eze, I'd get two for the price of one."

Salah seemingly poured cold water on a move away from Anfield with his post in light of their third-place finish in the Premier League. With Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also facing uncertainty as they enter the final year of their current deals, the Echo understands that the club are planning for life with the 31-year-old.
