Liverpool's summer transfer window has finally burst into life following a flurry of updates on Anthony Gordon. Interest from Anfield in the Newcastle star is well-documented but no formal approach looked to have occurred until a stunning update emerged on Saturday.

With Profit and Sustainability rules in mind, the ECHO understands Liverpool were offered the chance to sign Gordon in a deal that would've seen Jarell Quansah head to St James Park, however that was not accepted. Nonetheless, Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes may still have a chance to sign Gordon.

Elsewhere, Liverpool have been linked to Riccardo Calafiori and Leny Yoro as defensive signings. Interest in both players is prominent throughout Europe with a double Real Madrid update coming to light that impacts Liverpool significantly.

With that being said, the ECHO has taken a look at the latest Liverpool transfer rumours.

Final Gordon transfer chance

Despite rejecting one proposal for Gordon, Liverpool could still yet sign the England international this summer. Interest from Merseyside remains in the former Everton attacker, though Paris Saint-Germain have placed the 23-year-old on their summer shortlist, as per the Guardian.

The ECHO says: With PSG circling, this could be Liverpool's final chance to sign Gordon and it honestly should be taken. The appreciation is there in Gordon and as talks have already taken place it should be rather easy to return to Newcastle with a proposal that benefits both parties that can be given the green light.

Liverpool know exactly what they're getting from Gordon and he will undoubtedly be a player that can excite supporters. As Slot prepares for a campaign in the Champions League, quality depth being available is crucial and that is what Gordon will provide.

Pay the money and Liverpool will reap the rewards over the coming years. Take too long making a decision and PSG may pounce and if they don't, it feels as though it's a matter of time before Gordon moves on to his next challenge.

Yoro and Calafiori latest

Liverpool and Real Madrid have each shown interest in Lille defender Yoro but a new update could change everything.

According to Spanish outlet MARCA, Madrid have decided not to pay Lille's £33million (€40m) asking price for the teenager. If the French club do not lower their asking price, Los Blancos may turn their attention to Calafiori who Bologna value in the region of £40million.

The ECHO says: Liverpool could now be facing quite the dilemma in their search to sign a defender.

Yono appeared as the priority but his preference to join Madrid made it seem rather clear he was not interested in a Premier League move. As such, links to Calafiori emerged following his Euro 2024 performances and he honestly became a far more attractive option.

Liverpool's decision should be clear though following what is a rather unexpected update. Having been able to get a closer look at Calafiori on the big stage, he should be the priority regardless of Madrid's big call.
