This week has seen the transfer window burst into life as the change of month signalled the end of contracts for players around the Premier League and Europe.

For Liverpool that sees three players move on from the club. It was announced in the summer that Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip would leave the club at the end of their contracts.

Despite being offered a new deal at Anfield, goalkeeper Adrian also looks set to leave the club as he searches for more game time away from the club. The departure of the players does however mean a cash boost for Liverpool with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSRs) in mind.

According to Sportrac, the departure of Thiago in particular will free up £10.4 million over the year. The website reports that the midfielder was the third-highest paid player last year behind Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk with an annual salary of £200,000.

Matip’s departure will free up an extra £5.2 million with the defender reportedly earning £100,000 per week. Adrian’s exit will also save another £3.12 million, with a reported weekly salary of £60,000.

Added together, the three exits will save Liverpool a total of £18.72 million in the 2024/25 season. That extra money could now be used to boost the Reds’ transfer budget in the current summer window.

The club are expected to back Arne Slot as he prepares for life as Liverpool head coach. The Dutchman will look to add his own stamp in the coming weeks ahead of the new 2024/25 Premier League season.

The savings could also be boosted further with outgoings in the coming weeks. The sale of Caoimhin Kelleher would save the Reds a reported £520,000 while Fabio Carvalho, who has been linked with a move away earns a reported £2 million a year.
