The transfer windows across Europe have now opened to coincide with the contracts of a number of players expiring all over the continent.

While many of those out-of-contract will have already found new clubs and be close to striking agreements with them, as Adrian appears to be with Real Betis, that is not the case for every free agent. Some are still searching for their next team, such as David de Gea, who remains without an employer a year after leaving Manchester United.

Therefore, plenty of bargains remain available at this stage of the summer. The ECHO has highlighted four players that could be useful for Liverpool.

Mathew Ryan

Liverpool reportedly looked at the Australia international as far back as 2015 when considering replacing Simon Mignolet under Brendan Rodgers. The goalkeeper could be an ideal replacement for the seemingly outgoing Adrian as a new third choice.

Ryan has previously spoken about having family and friends who are Reds, so there could be an emotional pull towards Anfield if there is reciprocating interest. Since leaving Brighton and Hove Albion after a loan spell at Arsenal, the goalkeeper has played for Real Sociedad, Copenhagen and most recently, AZ Alkmaar.

Adrien Rabiot

A player more recently linked with Liverpool is Adrien Rabiot. The France international has a history of departing clubs on a free transfer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain for Juventus when his contract ended in 2019.

Rabiot could be a bargain replacement for Thiago and fill a similar role as a defensive midfielder in the squad. At the European Championship in Germany, Didier Deschamps displayed the player's versatility by having him play out on the left, too.

Mario Hermoso

Joel Matip is the other senior player who is now officially no longer under contract at Liverpool. Focusing on central defenders, Mario Hermoso could be a shrewd signing, as Matip was in 2016.

The former Spain international played 45 times across all competitions for Atletico Madrid and made almost 30 appearances in the Champions League during his time at the club. With such experience after only turning 29 last month, Hermoso could be ready to move away from Spain this summer.

Guido Rodriguez

Another player changing clubs on the Iberian Peninsula is Guido Rodriguez. The defensive midfielder is at the Copa America with Argentina, coming on in their 2-1 win over Chile last weekend.

Rodriguez has spent the last four years at Real Betis, his first move outside of the Americas. He made over 170 clubs for the Seville-based club and is linked to Barcelona, but Liverpool could still hijack any deal.
