Liverpool face a race against time if they wish to sign reported target Jeremie Frimpong for €40 million (£33.8m) this summer.

The Reds are one of three clubs credited with an interest in the Dutch full-back in the current transfer window. Bild report that the club are alongside Real Madrid, Arsenal and Manchester City (where he was in their youth set-up) in their interest with the player having ‘dreams’ of joining any of the clubs mentioned.

Liverpool are said to have ‘most recently’ made contact over a possible transfer. But they will have to act quickly if they decide to push through a move in the transfer window.

Frimpong has a €40 million release clause in his contract, but that expires in just over a week according to the report. How quickly the Reds will have to move could depend on the outcome of the semi-final between England and the Netherlands on Wednesday night.

Should the Dutch team beat the Three Lions, then it gives the player less time to sort his future, with his concentration, quite rightly, being on the tournament. Whereas if England knock the Netherlands out, then that will free up Frimpong to sort his future before Sunday’s final.

The 23-year-old has been with German side Bayer Leverkusen since January 2021. Last season he made 47 appearances in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and providing 12 assists as the side beat Bayern Munich to the German title.

He has mainly been used as a substitute during the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 campaign. He played the final three minutes of the nation’s 2-1 quarter-final win over Turkey after being an unused substitute for the previous two games.
