Liverpool faces a huge week as it bids to keep its trophy hopes alive. The Reds face Atalanta in the Europa League on Thursday night, looking to overturn a 3-0 deficit from the first leg, before travelling to Fulham on Sunday. Off the pitch, the search for the club's next manager remains ongoing amid praise for leading candidate Rúben Amorim. There is also more speculation over the future of Mohamed Salah at Anfield. Here's your round-up of the latest Liverpool news.

'Sensible' for Salah to leave

Former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson believes it would make sense for Mohamed Salah to depart this summer. The Egyptian is out of contract in 2025 and is yet to be offered a new deal to keep him at Anfield.

Salah is likely to once again be the subject of transfer interest from Saudi Pro League clubs when the transfer window reopens. And Johnson feels an exit at the end of the season would be logical for all parties.

"He’s going to be a year older next season, so I think it would be sensible to allow him to leave in the summer if they’re offered big money for him, even though seeing him leave would be heartbreaking," Johnson told Betfred.

“It’s a tough one because you’re never going to replace him. But you’ve got a better chance of doing so with $87m (£70m/€82m) in the bank and you wouldn’t want him to leave the club on a free.

“Every year from now, his value will decrease and that’s down to his age, not his ability. If they get the right money for him, then it may be the right time to let him leave.”

Matić backs Amorim for Liverpool

Sporting CP boss Rúben Amorim is the leading candidate to take over from Jürgen Klopp this summer. He is continuing to impress in Portugal, but has played down claims that he has already reached an agreement with Liverpool.

Ex-Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matić played with Amorim during his time at Benfica, and he believes the 39-year-old has the credentials to become a big hit in the Premier League.

Speaking to O Jogo, he said: "Rúben is an excellent person, he was one of the people who helped me the most when I arrived at Benfica because he speaks English very well, I hope he hasn’t forgotten how to speak it now.

“I see Rúben at a great club, I don’t know if it will be Liverpool, but if it happens I’m sure he’ll be a great replacement for Klopp because he understands football and has the personality and character to be a great coach.

"He already is at the moment. I’d like to see him in the Premier League, let’s see what happens from now on.”
