1. VARIOUS OF THE FWA FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR, JORDAN HENDERSON, WITH TROPHY (2 SHOTS)

2. (SOUNDBITE) (English) FWA ENGLAND FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR, JORDAN HENDERSON, SAYING:

"It's an amazing honour. A huge award. So many great players in the past that have won it. So, I'm very lucky and very thankful that I can receive this award and it means a lot to me and my family. But at the same time, I'd be wrong to sit here and say that all of this is for me, because it's not. I feel as though I'm receiving it on behalf of all the team and the players at Liverpool Football Club because without them, this wouldn't be possible. And anyone in that dressing room would have been thoroughly deserved of winning this award. I'm sure when the voting went in, there was an element of it's about what this team has achieved over the past year. And I'm very proud to be sitting here and receiving the award on behalf of them."

3. HENDERSON WITH TROPHY

4. (SOUNDBITE) (English) FWA FOOTBALLER OF THE YEAR, JORDAN HENDERSON, ON LIVERPOOL MANAGER JUERGEN KLOPP, SAYING:

"Again, I couldn't speak highly enough of the manager (Juergen Klopp) and what he's done for this football club. For all of us as players, he's improved us, every single player from when he's come in. But he's also improved us as people and as men and I couldn't speak highly enough of the gaffer. I don't think I need to. I think everyone knows what a remarkable job he's done since coming to this football club. He's another person that this award should go to because without him, then we don't win the trophies we have, we don't become as successful as we have over the past year. So, long may it continue."

STORY: Liverpool's Premier League title winning captain Jordan Henderson was named England's Footballer of the Year on Friday (July 24) in the annual vote of the Football Writers' Association (FWA).

Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester United's Marcus Rashford and Liverpool pair Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane made up the rest of the top five.

The 30-year-old Henderson has been central to Liverpool's success under Juergen Klopp through his leadership and tireless midfield work.

Henderson has played in 30 of Liverpool's league matches so far this season and scored four goals.

Two other Liverpool players - right back Trent Alexander-Arnold and goalkeeper Alisson Becker - also received votes.

The Footballer of the Year trophy has been awarded since 1948 when Stanley Matthews was its first recipient.

Other players who received votes from FWA members included Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Manchester United), Sergio Aguero (Manchester City), Adama Traore (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Danny Ings (Southampton), Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) and Leicester City pair James Maddison and Jonny Evans.
