This Lobster Caught In Devon Is Bright BLUE - And His Name Is Larry

A lobster caught off the coast of Devon is safely OFF the menu - because he is bright blue instead of red.

Oh, and if his colouring wasn’t unique enough, he has also been named Larry by the fishermen who caught him.

The unusually coloured creature was caught by Ladram Bay Holiday Park director Robin Carter, a keen amateur fisherman.

Robin had been with out on the water off the coast in Devon with fellow fisherman Keith Setter when they discovered Larry in one of their pots.

The pair gave the moniker to his unusual catch before returning him back to the sea.

Larry managed to escape being served up at posh dinner parties because his blue colouring is believed to be a sign of good luck.

Mr Setter said of his unexpected find: “Fifty years I’ve been fishing at Ladram Bay and I’ve never ever seen one like that.

“It’d be nice in five years time for someone else to catch it and have the pleasure we’ve had looking at it.”

Carla Newman of Ladram Bay added: “As soon as we saw it, we knew it was special, so eating it was never, ever going to be an option.

"The plan was always to set it free and hope it’ll breed.”

Mr Setter’s find is even more surprising as the odds of catching one are thought to be around one in two million.

The blue colouring is the result of a genetic abnormality.
