Locals have shared their objections to plans for a housing development near Peterborough. The plans will see up to 265 new homes being built east of Eyebury Road in Eye.

The proposals were submitted in June 2019, with outline approval granted four years later. It includes plans for the new homes, along with the provision of approximately one hectare of land and new playing fields for the nearby Eye CofE primary school.

This phase in the plans involves a reserved matters application, seeking permission for the appearance, layout, landscaping and scale of the development. It includes details on the 49 two-bed homes, 107 three-beds, 109 four-bed properties and 3m cycleway to the school extension site.

Many residents have expressed concerns over the increase in traffic the development will bring. Others have objected to the impact it would have on parking.

One person said: "The entire street within the village of Eye named Eyebury Road, is not fit for the level of traffic using it today, adding construction traffic and then the increased traffic of 265 dwellings. I've seen emergency service vehicles unable to pass to reach their destination due to the high volume of traffic on this road."

Another added: "There is no lollipop lady and the pupils cannot cross the road with safety and reassurance in mind so parents drive their children. The residents around Eyebury Road, Little Close and the Crescent already have to put up with twice daily parking and with this development it will be intolerable."

A design statement with the application said: "The mix of materials will ensure that an attractive development is brought forward that is also in keeping with the surrounding built form context."

It adds that there would be a mix of house types as well as a unifying appearance to create a cohesive feel to the area.

The statement continues: "Cycle storage will be provided on properties without a garage. Footpaths separate from private drives link areas of the development, and allow for strong recreational routes through the development."

A decision on the application will be made by Peterborough City Council at a later date. For more information, visit the planning portal, using the reference 24/00541/REM or click here.
