Logan might be Hugh Jackman's swansong as The Wolverine, but it isn't necessarily the end for all the characters in James Mangold's new movie.

Talking to We Got This Covered ahead of the release of the film, Mangold teased that he'd love to see Wolverine's young ward Laura, aka X-23 played by Dafne Keen, get her own story.

"I think Dafne is incredible in the film and I would love to see another film about that character and that's certainly something I'd be involved in," he said.

"For me, that was one of the big additions I brought to the table, this decision to try to make the film about family and to try to insert Laura and the pressures that would [bring] and the idea about Charles ailing."

In Logan, we find Professor X and Logan - now going by his original name James Howlett - hiding out with mutant Caliban (Stephen Merchant) until they cross paths with the young Laura, who has remarkably similar abilities and traits to Wolverine.

Charles is sick, Logan is old and starting to deteriorate, but Laura gives them new purpose in life.

Jackman has said he's done with playing Wolverine now (though he did hint to Digital Spy he might consider a Deadpool crossover if he could play 'Fat Wolverine').

But that doesn't mean Laura's world couldn't be expanded.

There's the vague possibility that she could appear in Fox's upcoming spin-off New Mutants, but since this is rumoured to include James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, if she did make an appearance, it would have to involve some serious timey-wimey business.

Instead, we'd rather she, and some of the other Logan supporting cast, have their own movie - a grim, dystopian, R-rated ensemble led by a hyper-violent little girl. Now that would be bold.
