Logan director James Mangold confirms Wolverine 3 doesn't have a post-credits scene

Following intense rumour, Logan director James Mangold has confirmed there won't be a post-credits scene after all.

Despite no such scene appearing in the copy of the film shown to critics, keen-eyed Marvel fans grew excited after discovering 20th Century Fox had tacked on an additional three minutes to the film's running time.

However, Mangold broke the news on Twitter after a fan asked him whether the scene was something he wanted to include for the beginning; he simply replied: “There is not a post credits scene.”

It's a possibility that Mangold could be withholding confirmation on the scene in a bid to make it all the more surprising - however, it seems pretty certain to us that the Logan critics saw will be the Logan fans will see. There's also nothing to say that the additional three minutes is formerly edited material that Mangold has weaved back into the end product.

The film - which is a more adult take on the popular X-Men character - has been unanimously praised by critics since its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival last Friday (17 February) - not to mention Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds. It serves as Hugh Jackman's swansong having played the role nine times.

Sir Patrick Stewart - who is the subject of episode two of The Independent's new podcast Kernels (check out episode one with Matthew McConaughey here) - also returns as Charlez Xavier, with newcomer Dafne Keen starring as young mutant, X-23. Stephen Merchant, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Richard E. Grant also star.

Logan is released in the UK on 1 March.
