A map of the London Underground has given us a glimpse into what the network could look like by 2100, as rising sea levels threaten to submerge some lines.

The design, crafted by Zhaoning Yuan, is part of a research project aiming to 'boost public understanding and awareness of the tangible implications of climate change on daily life'.

The Tube map reveals an expanded River Thames that has formed massive pools of water in East London by 2095. It appears that water has swallowed up part of the Thameslink route towards Gravesend, with the DLR soaring above the river while the Hammersmith and City and District lines travel beneath it.

The Jubilee line is also shown to journey under the Thames, as Canada Water, ironically, finds itself submerged. This is also the fate of a section of the Overground network in South London between Wapping and New Cross Gate.

The IFS Cable Car seems to have vanished, and the area where the new City Hall stands just south of Royal Victoria appears to be flooded.

Over in West London, Vauxhall station has disappeared, and the Victoria south of Pimlico has been overrun by water. The Northern line between Stockwell and Waterloo has also vanished.

However, Putney Bridge seems to have survived on some sort of island, and Heathrow remains untouched, according to the prediction.

Transport for London (TfL) is delving into the potential future impacts of climate change on its network. They're focusing on "improving estimation of future rates of deterioration that might lead to failure in transport infrastructure slopes" through their involvement with the ACHILLES research consortium.
