The lonely Leeds dogs still searching for a home after 900 days in care

Some pets living temporarily in shelters have spent months and even years waiting for the right caring owners to come along and give them the love and adoration that they deserve.

There's no doubt that taking on a new pet is a massive commitment, so it's vital that you conduct thorough research before taking on an animal.

But if you have decided you are in the position to open your home to a new addition, why not give a shelter home dog a second chance at life?

These four loveable pooches have earned the title of the most overlooked animals at Dogs Trust Leeds, having patiently waited for potential adopters for a considerable amount of time.

However, the dedicated team at Dogs Trust Leeds are determined to turn things around and find a forever home for Domino, Edie, Missi and Jethro.

Could one of these adorable four legged friends be the perfect match for your family?

Domino

Ten year old Lurcher, Domino, has been in the care of Dogs Trust Leeds for almost five years after being found as a stray. During that time, he has stolen the heats of the team caring for him.

He is lots of fun, very playful and he gets more and more affectionate the more you get to know him. He has regular visits to his favourite Canine Carer’s home and where he has shown that he will settle perfectly into home life with just a little time and patience.

Domino is a clever boy who loves doing his training, and he has been working on his doggy socialisation, although he is looking for a home in a quieter area where he won’t see too many other dogs. He travels well so won't mind being driven to more peaceful walking spots and can walk with another dog if introduced properly and slowly.

Due to him being in the rehoming centre for so long he'll need someone around all the time initially to help him settle and will need to be the only pet in an adult only home with a secure, private garden, away from other dogs.

Edie

Edie
Domino

Edie a is gorgeous five year old Shar Pei who has a real zest for life. She has been in the care of Dogs Trust Leeds for over three years. She loves getting out for walkies or playing with her toys and she's absolutely smashing her training.

She really enjoys showing off and her confidence grows each time she learns a new trick. She makes great use of that enormous nose, and loves playing scent work games and tracking.

Edie walks really nicely on lead, and she's been for sleep-overs to her canine carer’s home where she was the perfect houseguest - very relaxed, fully housetrained, and happy to just chill out.

Edie can be worried by unfamiliar people, although she is the sweetest, most playful, and snuggly girl once she knows you. Dogs Trust is looking for a super special home for Edie due to her nervous character. Her home needs to be a calm and predictable environment with adults only and no visiting children. She will need her new owners to be around all the time initially, but in time she will be ok to be left for periods on her own. Edie will make someone the most wonderful companion, but she just needs plenty of time and patience to get to know her initially.

Missi

In the care of Dogs Trust Leeds for almost three years, Missi is a beautiful six year old Whippet Cross who forms a very strong, loving bond with the people caring for her. Everyone who knows Missi absolutely adores her and she is a very sweet, loving and playful girl. She loves lots of attention and will snuggle on the sofa all day if she could, although she is also great fun to train, and she's already learned lots and would love to learn more.

Missi needs to get to know you properly before she'll show her true character but she's well worth the wait. She has a few training needs so she is looking for a family who can continue with her training. She’d like to live in a quiet area, away from other dogs, and as she needs a calm and predictable home life, she cannot live with children.

Jethro

Three year old Foxhound Jethro has been with the team at Dogs Trust Leeds for just over two years. His carers describe him as a big, friendly goof-ball with loads of energy. He’s an awesome dog, but he does need quite a specific home. His new home will need as much energy as he has, and he must be the only pet in an adult only home due to his size and strength.

Jethro likes to chill in his own space so he will need access to a room where he can relax alone, and this also means that once he’s settled in, he’ll be fine on his own for a few hours. A secure garden is vital as he LOVES playing off-lead. He’s a very smart dog too and enjoys plenty of fun training tasks, food games and other enrichment. This is something which must continue in his home to keep him busy.

Jethro is a real joy to be around, and all his handlers adore him. He is very strong, so his new family must be able to safely hold on to him. He’s very dog-social but can be a bit OTT so not all dogs will appreciate him.

He'll be fine to have walking buddies, but he’s not suited to sharing his home. As you’d expect from his breed, Jethro has quite the voice and he likes to use it, but if you are a fan of all things Hound, and are up for plenty of adventures and training, then you might be a PAWfect match for wonderful Jethro!
