'Look at the State of This': Stands Flooded at Old Trafford by Post-Game Downpour

There certainly wasn’t a torrent of goals at Old Trafford on Sunday, May 12, but a deluge did hit the stadium after Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, with water seen cascading down the stands to the bemusement of fans who were still inside.

Cameron Foster recorded this video of water pouring in. “Look at the state of this,” he is heard saying, before seeing the funny side.

Foster told Storyful that rain started leaking through the roof before “rushing down the stairs”.

“We couldn’t get out without getting soaked,” he said. “The Arsenal fans where laughing and singing at us. As United fans we just had to laugh at what a sad state the stadium is in.”

According to ESPN, executives at the club said the stadium “struggled to cope” after 41mm of rain fell shortly after the final whistle.

The iconic venue’s state of disrepair has long been a bugbear for fans, with new co-owner Jim Ratcliffe said to favor building a new stadium. Credit: Cameron Foster via Storyful
