Denise Welch has confirmed her son Matty Healy's engagment as she hosted Loose Women on Wednesday afternoon. The ITV star said she was 'thrilled' with her new daughter in law, saying she was 'everything she wants' for her son.

Rumours had circled that Matty was engaged to girlfriend Gabbriette Bechtel after he shared a photo of her wearing a ring on Instagram. Denise revealed on the ITV show: "I have known for a few weeks that Matty got engaged.

"They went over to see their friends Charli and George in New York. I woke up this morning to the fact they've put it on Instagram. Instagram official, he has got engaged to Gabbriette. Black diamond, he had it made for her and I couldn't be more thrilled."

Talking about her soon to be daughter in law, Denise added: "She is from Los Angeles, she is absolutely gorgeous she has a rat. We couldn't be happier, she is everything that I would want in a daughter in law."

Gabbriette, 26, is a model and the lead singer of rock band Nasty Cherry. Matty, the lead singer of The 1975, re-shared Gabbriette's snap of her ring to his own account.

The pair started dating last September. Their romance came after the high profile fling between Matty and pop star Taylor Swift. More than one track on Taylor's Tortured Poets album is believed to be about Healy and his years-long history with Swift.

Fans have speculated that Swift’s songs “The Tortured Poets Department,” “Guilty as Sin?”, “But Daddy I Love Him,” “Down Bad,” “The Black Dog,” “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)”, and “Fresh Out the Slammer” are among those about Healy.
