Lord of the Rings star Miranda Otto has revealed why she hasn't watched TV series The Rings of Power just yet.

The actress, who played Éowyn in the original Peter Jackson movie trilogy, explained in a new interview that making the films was a "contained" experience for her, though she will watch the show at some point.

"I haven't watched Rings of Power but I will get around to it at some stage," she told Metro.

"It’s a funny thing for me because the experience for me was so special that it kind of sits contained for me in that moment. I wish [them] every success, but in some ways my, it would be funny for me to go back and try and watch it or watch others."

The series, which streams on Amazon's Prime Video service, is set in Middle-earth's Second Age – thousands of years before the events of the film trilogy – and debuted last year.

Otto will be returning to JRR Tolkien's world in the new animated movie The War of the Rohirrim, which she will narrate as Éowyn.

Speaking about joining the project, she recalled: "Phillippa [Boyens], one of the writers on the original, rang me and asked if I would be interested in coming back and narrating the animation for this film and I said yes because I thought it would be interesting to return to the character.

"There is not an enormous amount I have to do but it was a fun way to keep the character going in some way so many years later."

Work on season 2 of The Rings of Power is currently underway, and star Morfydd Clark recently teased that it will include some "interesting villains".
