Lorry cab cut in half after catching fire in horror crash on M6 motorway

A lorry cab was sliced in half after the vehicle caught fire in a crash on the M6 near Stafford, Staffordshire.

This is the shocking aftermath of a motorway crash that left a lorry cab cut in half after it caught fire.

The incident happened on a stretch of the motorway near Stafford, Staffordshire, on Sunday morning.

National Highways reported the crash shortly after 11.45am.

Miraculously, the driver of the lorry was able to exit the vehicle after the crash and was treated at the scene for injuries not believed to be serious. He was later taken to hospital.

It is understood the lorry overturned and caught fire.

Traffic was halted in both directions between junction 12 for Cannock and junction 13 for Stafford as the emergency services attended the scene.

The HGV lorry cab was split in two and its engine was strewn across the motorway.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service told Yahoo News UK: "Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene and a Community First Responder was also in attendance.

"On arrival, crews discovered a lorry had been involved in a collision and the driver, a man, was already out of the vehicle.

"Ambulance staff treated the patient for injuries not believed to be serious before conveying him by land ambulance to New Cross Hospital for further treatment."

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "The M6 in Staffordshire is closed northbound between J12 and J13 due to a road traffic collision involving a Heavy Goods Vehicle which has overturned and caught fire.

"Central Motorway Police Group, Fire and Rescue, Air Ambulance and National Highways Traffic Officers are on scene. The southbound carriageway has been released.

"Traffic within the northbound closure is currently being released past the scene."
