Lottie Tomlinson reveals first wedding plans with Lewis Burton
Lottie Tomlinson exclusively shares her plans to have two bridal dresses
Lottie Tomlinson has shared the first details of her wedding planning ahead of tying the knot with Lewis Burton, with whom she shares son Lucky.
A little more than months after getting engaged, the model - who is the younger sister of One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson - revealed the couple have set their hearts on a wedding venue and already she has plans for two totally different bridal dresses.
Now speaking from their sun-soaked holiday destination at Kandima Maldives in an exclusive with Yahoo, the makeup artist detailed how they are in the early stages of planning their wedding.
Wedding plans
She told Yahoo: "We already have a destination in mind so no our wedding won’t be the Maldives. A Maldives wedding would be incredible but I would worry about asking all of our guests to travel so far! But what a dream it would be getting married in that setting."
She further explained: "We haven’t done any proper planning as of yet. We know where we’d like to do it, but we haven’t set anything in stone yet. I think we will start to think about the planning soon. So excited!"
As the wedding is on their minds, Tomlinson has already been thinking about her bridal dress plans. With many celebrities opting for three different looks, it's no surprise that the Instagram star revealed she would ideally have two dresses on her big day.
She would love a traditional long white dress for her wedding reception and a totally different look for the party. She said: "Oh definitely, I'll be doing two dresses. I wanna milk it! I want my long dress for the reception and then a cute mini for the party."
Her dream dress remains top secret though and with good reason. She coyly confessed: "I can’t reveal that incase Lewis reads this!"
Getting engaged
Sparks have been flying between the lovebirds since they first started dating in 2020. They got engaged on a romantic break to Paris in November. Burton had dressed the scene perfectly with beautiful rose petals scattered in their hotel room.
Recalling the moment now, Tomlinson said: "I was literally on cloud nine. I just jumping up and down screaming for a good 10 minutes. I was even shocked at how happy it made me."
While the couple had talked about marriage, the model admitted it was a shock because her other half had given her a few red herrings. She added: "It was definitely in our plan to get engaged and married in the next few years but I had no idea when, he’d thrown me off guard a few times and implied it’d be the following year. So I was shocked and so excited."
Honeymoon destination
Only three months have gone by since the proposal and the couple have already headed to one of the most sought after honeymoon destinations, the Maldives. "I feel so lucky to be able to visit and experience it," she said. "It's just so beautiful here at Kandima and tranquil... Being able to experience it with the people you love the most makes it so special."
Tomlinson gushed it was "amazing" being in the Maldives - which is often considered one of the most romantic places in the world - with her fiancé, as well as their little boy Lucky.
She added: "We’ve always loved to travel so when we are on holiday and visiting new places we are always so excited and happy. I love seeing the world with him and now our beautiful boy Lucky. Being a little family travelling the world is a dream come true!"
Of course, they are devoted parents to their son Lucky but Tomlinson revealed the couple always make time for their romance as well. She said: "We always make time for each other, we are pretty much inseparable! We feel happiest and safest when we're together so we prioritise that. This holiday will just be a chance to visit a new place, make new memories and get some sun!"
Parenting on holiday
Although Tomlinson admitted going on holiday is "definitely different" with a little one, she shared why it is more special. "Obviously it's nowhere near as relaxing," she said. "But it’s so much more special as it’s what we always dreamt of! It’s amazing being able to see the world through a little pair of eyes, watching them discover new things and the excitement of everything. It can be exhausting travelling with a little one but it’s so worth it for the memories."
And while travelling can be tiring, the mum-of-one said she "tried not to overthink" going on a long-haul flight to the Maldives with her son. She explained: "At the end of the day you’re going to end up in paradise, even if it ends up being a bit tiring and stressful at times, I’d do it over and over to be able to experience these places and make memories with him."
Sharing tips for other mums, she added: "I always book a night flight, so that he can sleep. I find that makes it so much easier. Lots of snacks and toys! Also don’t be ashamed of the iPad, I think there’s so much judgement around them. It’s a lifesaver if it’s controlled."
Being a mum
Tomlinson has settled into the life of becoming a mum with ease, having welcomed Lucky into the world in August 2022. "It's been the most life-changing incredible experience," she said. "It's changed me in so many ways, all for the better. I needed him so badly and didn’t know it. He came to me at the perfect time and I’m so grateful."
Parenting in the spotlight isn't always easy but Tomlinson said she hasn't been "affected too badly" by those external pressures. She explained: "It can be hard sometimes when you get judgement for certain things, but I do think that most of the time it’s people just trying to be helpful. I enjoy having a community at my fingertips, all I need to do is ask a mum-related question on my Instagram stories and I get so many different bits of advice which is so amazing!"
Additionally, there are lots of advantages to being a mum in the limelight, including Tomlinson being a role model to other young women. She said: "I think it’s nice for me to show people that you can be a young successful mum."
She further explained: "I think people often think you have to give up your career and your goals to be a mum and you really don’t. Of course you have to change and adapt your work life but it’s really given me so drive to achieve more and create an amazing life for him so I think you can absolutely do both! I love being able to show that."
In 2016, the model lost her own mum Johannah to leukaemia but she forever lives in her heart. "My mum showed us so much strength and determination with how she was and I think it’s something she really put into me," she said.
Revealing what she has learned from her mum about motherhood, she added: "She was so hardworking and strong but also made her children her priority and focus. I always felt so loved by her and that’s the way I always want to be with Lucky."
