A large emergency service presence near Nottingham city centre was due to a gas escape from a storage cylinder at a bus depot. Crews from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service were seen near the Motorpoint Arena on Lower Parliament Street at around 3.30pm on Sunday (May 5).

The response was due to an incident at the Nottingham City Transport bus depot. A safety valve failed on the bank of gas storage cylinders leading to a loud noise and a gas escape.

A spokesperson for Nottingham City Transport said: "A safety valve on one of the bank of gas storage cylinders failed earlier this afternoon, which caused a loud noise and a gas escape. The affected bank of cylinders has been isolated and the rest of the gas plant is being recommissioned. There are no injuries or damage caused by the issue."
