Loughborough General Election candidates tell you why they think they deserve your vote

General Election candidates in Loughborough have set out why you should vote for them when the polling booths open on Thursday, July 4. LeicestershireLive invited the candidates to tell you what they wanted you to know about them when you went to the polling booths.

Five candidates are fighting for your vote in Loughborough, including current MP Jane Hunt, of the Conservative Party. Boundary changes means the Sileby Ward will now become part of the new Melton and Syston constituency.

Labour candidate Jeevun Sandher has been predicted to win this seat, according to a recent YouGov poll.

Here's what your candidates have to say:

Jeevun Sandher – Labour Party

"Vote Labour for change on July 4.

"Loughborough is my home. I’m hopeful that we can build a better future, and I’m determined to deliver it.

"A prosperous future, an MP who will serve you, and the choice to end Conservative chaos. That’s why I’m running to be your MP.

"I’ve spoken to thousands of you on the doorstep, on the phone, and at community events. You’ve seen how much work I’ve put in to earn your vote. That’s because I take the duty of serving you as your MP seriously.

"There are three reasons I’m running to be your MP:

"1) To build a prosperous future. To get energy bills down for good, we’ll invest in clean energy and home insulation. To get wages rising, I’m working to bring (green) investment here and build a thriving local economy. To get our NHS working again, we’ll hire more doctors and nurses. And to make our streets safe, we’ll hire more police.

"2) I will be an MP who will serve you. I have spent my life making families like yours better off. I became an economist so I would know how to get more money in your pocket and then spent my career doing just that.

"3) The choice to beat the Conservatives. Our country is in crisis, but we can turn things around. It will be a two-horse race here: Labour vs. Conservative. Let’s change this country for the better. Vote Labour for Change on the 4th July."

Hans Zollinger-Ball – Green Party

"I am deeply honoured to stand as the Green Party candidate for the upcoming general elections.

"Residing on the outskirts of Leicestershire with my beloved wife and two children, my extensive travels around the globe have opened my eyes to the pressing need for sustainable practices and community-driven solutions.

"Witnessing the strain on our local infrastructure caused by large-scale housing developments has inspired me to stand as your candidate for Loughborough Constituency.

"The current proposal by Tarmac Mountsorrel Quarry to extend mining permissions until 2058, poses a real threat to our delicate ecosystem. Local voices must be heard in decisions of such magnitude, and I am committed to advocating for greater community involvement and environmental protection.

"I propose the establishment of a cross-community lending institution to support local shops, and small businesses by providing accessible funding at affordable interest rates. This initiative aims to foster community growth and resilience in the face of economic challenges.

"Moreover, addressing the critical issue of social housing shortages, I pledge to work towards securing adequate funding for local councils to construct council homes.

"Ensuring that those in need have access to safe and affordable housing is paramount in building a more equitable society.

"In conclusion, I believe that community empowerment, environmental sustainability, and social welfare are key pillars in creating a prosperous and harmonious society. If entrusted with the responsibility of representing the Loughborough constituency, I am dedicated to championing these values and working tirelessly for the betterment of our community."

Also standing in the constituency are Jane Hunt, of the Conservative Party, Andy McWilliam, of Reform UK, and Ian Robert Sharpe, of the Liberal Democrats. We invited all of them to submit statements for this article, but did not hear back from any of them by the publication deadline.
