Louis Tomlinson hailed as Glastonbury 'hero' after he stages impromptu England match screening

Louis Tomlinson earned praise for setting up a wide-screen TV at his Glastonbury campsite so festival goers could watch England’s Euros game.

Music and sports fans at Worthy Farm faced a tough choice as festival organisers announced no Euro 2024 matches would be screened due to performance schedules.

On Sunday evening, attendees were delighted when the former One Direction star, 32, provided a way to watch England take on Slovakia in the last-16 match.

After trying to watch the game in the hospitality section but facing poor reception, Tomlinson went to a local Argos, bought a TV and a generator, and set it up in the camping area, where hundreds gathered to watch the tense match unfold.

Speaking to the BBC, Tomlinson, admitted that fans had labelled him “the god of the festival”, adding it was “a little bit touch and go at times” due to the TV’s glitchy signal.

Adding: “Luckily we got the win, we pulled it off,’ he said. ‘[I’m] made up.”

As the game headed into extra time, the Kill My Mind hitmaker also told The Guardian it was the second screen he’d purchased after the first “got cracked”.

“I wasn’t going to take credit for it because it looked like we were going to lose in normal time, but now that we’ve equalised, I’m happy to,” he shared.

Initially, festival staff were concerned about the gathering, fearing it could lead to a crush as attendees left the Pyramid stage. Some fans were reportedly abusive when told the impromptu screening might be shut down.

However, a compromise was reached, and the screen was angled away from the thoroughfare, allowing football fans to continue watching where England prevailed against Slovakia 2-1.

The Glastonbury screening was also documented by his sister Lottie Tomlinson on TikTok and hairstylist pal Lou Teasdale.
