Louis Tomlinson has assured fans that he is "on the mend" following an op after breaking his arm.

The One Direction heartthrob, 30, broke his arm "pretty badly" last week after falling when he was on his way home from a gig in New York.

But he has now shared an update with his fans on Twitter, saying: "Hope everyone is doing alright!

"Surgery went well so hopefully slowly but surely I’m on the mend."

The Bigger Than Me singer had previously shared an x-ray image of his arm on social media as he told his fans that he had taken a tumble.

"Thank you to everyone that's listened to the new album so far, it means the world to me," said the star, who just released his LP Faith In The Future.

"The show last night in New York was incredible.

"Unfortunately, on the way back, I've managed to fall and break my right arm pretty badly."

He went on: "So I'm gutted to say I'll have to reschedule the in-store signings next week. New dates will be announced very soon.

"Thank you for all your support and sorry to anyone who was coming next week."

Tomlinson's fans said they were relieved to hear that he was doing OK.

"Glad to know surgery went well, take all the time you need," one person posted on Twitter.

Another said: "Hope it’s healing soon!"

"Love and healing vibes sent from Australia," said somebody else.

One of the singer's followers said they were "so happy to hear the surgery went well", adding: "Try avoiding walls and floors from now on please."
