Love Island bosses are clamping down on on-screen smoking after it was revealed to have been complained about more than any of the scenes of sex in its last series.

In 2017, Ofcom received a number of complaints – 24 in total – for the ‘portrayal of smoking’ as opposed to just 15 for the ‘promotion of sexual material/promiscuity‘.

According to the Sun, a source suggests things are about to change: ‘Last year there were more viewer complaints about the amount of smoking than anything else.’

‘It did feel like someone had a fag in their hand constantly last series, so hopefully viewers will notice the difference,’ they claimed.

And while the show won’t ban or cut smoking entirely, they will intend to have it confined to designated areas and remove it as a focused ‘accessory’ for the programme’s stars.

‘It will still be filmed, but as they’ll be alone, there won’t be as many gossipy moments as last year,’ the source said.

Hoewever, an ITV spokesperson said that something of a smoking ban in the main parts of the vill and garden: ‘There will be no smoking within the Love Island villa or the main villa garden this year.’
