Love Island’s Luca Bish claims to know nothing of Michael Owen’s football career

It was the question on everyone's lips when Love Island 2022 began - when will Gemma reveal that her dad is footballing legend Michael Owen?

But it seems any expectations that the male islanders would be tripping over themselves to date the former England striker's daughter were misplaced, as her boyfriend from the ITV2 dating show, fishmonger Luca Bish, has admitted he is too young to know who Owen is.

The 23-year-old, who placed second in the show with Gemma, 19, said he had no point of reference when Gemma's mum Louise claimed he looked like a young Owen.

Asked how he felt about being compared to his girlfriend's dad by her mum, Luca said to Gemma: "I think when he was playing football, I was really young so I don’t think I’ve ever seen your dad.

"I’ve seen him now presenting and stuff but I don’t think I look anything like him there, but maybe when he was younger."

Gemma told him: "You need to see a picture of him when he was younger, side by side."

But Luca admitted: "I’ve had nothing to go off. I’ve had people tell me about the goals he scored and all that."

While the reality TV star might not know much about Owen's career on the pitch, the former footballer was equally unaware of Love Island.

Shortly after his daughter made her debut on the show, he said he had never watched it before and was shocked to find that couples shared beds straight away.

He said: "Luckily for me, there was no physical contact. Gemma had her back to the guy. There was space between them.

"I thought 'good girl'. No father wants to see physical contact, do they? I certainly don’t.

"If there is physical contact I think I’ll be throwing something at the screen. I don’t want to see kissing. Do not make me see kissing."

Gemma and Luca were runners up to winning couple Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti, who took home the £50,000 prize in Monday's final.
