Love Island: New Miss GB Deone Robertson Agrees With Zara Holland’s De-Crowning

The newly-crowned Miss Great Britain Deone Robertson has defended the organisation’s decision to strip former Love Islander Zara Holland of her title.

The blonde beauty lost her crown after having sex with fellow contestant Alex Bowen on the ITV2 reality show last week, with pageant bosses explaining that she didn’t “uphold the responsibility expected of the title.”

However, many people have since rallied together to offer the support to the now former Miss GB, even launching a petition calling for organisers to reinstate Zara’s title.

Now Deone, who was promoted to Miss GB after Zara was dethroned, has had her say on the event bosses’ controversial decision.

“We are supposed to be role models for young girls and represent our chosen charities – (Zara) knew this,” the 28-year-old told Mirror Online. “Everyone is briefed before entering a pageant. It’s drummed into your head.

“There are contracts in place. You can’t be seen naked or topless and you definitely cannot have sex on TV.”

Many people have suggested that the pageant’s rules are archaic, to which Deone said: “The rules are all on the website. Some say they’re outdated but at the end of the day, rules are rules and you have to stick to them.

“Zara has been in the pageant industry a long time. She would have known all of this. She knew the difficult situation she would have been putting the organisers in.

“But I think the pageant community saw this coming. Nobody is saying she did anything wrong. She is a young girl enjoying life but under these circumstances, she can’t be a title holder.”

Despite the petition reaching over 13,000 signatures, with public support from the likes of Anthea Turner and Caroline Flack, Deone suggested that the reality TV star wouldn’t receive a second chance.

“The power of social media is incredibly powerful isn’t it? It’s great to see she has such amazing support but I can’t see that happening because unfortunately, rules are rules. It’s very tricky.

“She has worked so hard to get where she is, losing her title is just the end of one small chapter in her life,” she added. “She is going to go on and achieve so much more.

“I think Zara had the best time on Love Island. It came at a cost but I know she is going to go on to do bigger and better things… Although she isn’t anymore, nobody can take away the fact that she was once Miss Great Britain.”
